Letter from a Coding Convention

Dear friends and family,

Hi πŸ‘‹ McKenna is back again this time with stories from London!!! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŽ‘πŸŒ‚πŸ’‚πŸ»β€β™€οΈ last weekend I went on a trip with my school to an event called “how machines work” led by the stemettes, which is a group of women who want to encourage girls to go into stem jobs! πŸ‘·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸπŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ”¬ This weekend was focused on computer coding.

The trip there was smooth, first train then plane. πŸšŠπŸ’ΊβœˆοΈ

We had the train carriage to ourselves! 😁

It was an early morning and my friends didn’t feel like being photographed! πŸ˜… (left to right Grace,Sophia,Rebecca, and Sofia)

But before we went to the convention we did all of the classic tourism including *deep breath of excitement* PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!! 🀩🎫🎭

The stage transformed before our eyes! 🀯

I just like this photo because our teacher photobombed us! 😜

You better believe I got a t shirt πŸ‘š
We had the convention the next daytt
l! πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘Œ I was disappointed be
e we were not doing python (that is the
ing language I am learning), but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun! πŸ˜‰

This robot is called a “dobot” Using coding you can make it draw! πŸ€– πŸ–Œ

This is what we drew with it, you don’t need the sound on to watch.

As well we created a “chatbot” a robot you can talk to! I was on a team with 3 other people form my school.

From left to right this is Tanvi, Coline, and Sofia.

We all had different jobs when it came to the project.

Tanvi knew the most about code so if we ever didn’t know what we were doing we would come to her.

Coline did a lot of the tedious work, and as well she introduced me to Korean music groups so that’s a bonus!

Sofia was the project manager and was the leader when it came to creating the chatbot she as well was super creative with what we could do with the program.

I was in charge of trying to break the program. What I mean by that is my job was to try and find flaws in our project. As well I was tasked with running the presentation as I had the most speaking experience.

This is us presenting the project! These pictures are of me presenting and I think I look ridiculous! πŸ˜‹

We ended up winning the chat bot challenge!!!

This is us with the judges, we had to kneel because we were taller than them! πŸ˜‚

Side note here is a project I made with python to show you what you can do with a limited knowledge of coding. It is an Acrostic poem generator. Press play and type your name in then push enter and it will generate a poem!

After the even we got to go to the London eye!

I like this pic of me.

I think that it looks way cooler at night! βœ¨πŸŒ™

I took this time laps when we were
ye.
As well my favorite pictures from the trip we
hen we walked to the eye because we went on this really pretty bridge. (I’m sorry I don’t know the name πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ) And I got some really good pictures.

I think I look cute! 😘 This is Mr.Baumgarten he is the computer science teacher and the one who organized the trip. He is very chill. 😎

There were 20 girls on the trip and I’m missing lots from this photo but I like how happy everyone looks in the photo. 😊 Also this photo lead to all of the 7th graders calling me mommy-Kenna because I insisted on a group photo just like I was their mom. πŸ˜™πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§

The trip home was not as smooth as the trip to London. The bus broke down on the motor way leading to us getting home at 2 in the morning! 😭 🚍

That’s about it! This is a long one but I really wanted to share my experience with you!

Have a happy thanksgiving πŸ¦ƒπŸ½πŸ,

McKenna Q super coder πŸ˜‹
